The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes the important role of youth in achieving the SDGs. Today, young people are more connected, creative, informed, and persuasive than any previous generation. Young people are responding to the challenges of today with innovative approaches, contributing fresh ideas, and creating the world they want for themselves and their communities. At the same time, 267 million young people globally are not in employment, education or training (NEET). Moreover, more than 1 in 6 young people have stopped working since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

Supporting youth economic empowerment has been central to the work of the UNDP globally. Co-created by Citi Foundation and UNDP, Youth Co:Lab has been empowering youth to accelerate implementation of SDGs through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship. Since its inception in 2017, the programme has supported more than 7,120 young entrepreneurs across 25 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region, and helped catalyze the establishment and expansion of over 650 social enterprises. In Africa, Youth Connekt Africa has operated as a pan-African platform with the vision of connecting African youth for socio-economic transformation while investing in their ideas, innovations and initiatives.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore the life stories of young startup founders from Asia-Pacific and Africa to share their entrepreneurial journey and how they are changing the world to “leave no one behind”. Why did they start their enterprise in the first place? How did they overcome their failures? If you’re curious about the secrets of building an impact enterprise, the session will be a good opportunity for you to learn from these great examples! We welcome youth from around the world who are aspiring entrepreneurs, or those who simply want to be inspired, to join this session. A panel talk will be followed by a Q&A from the audience.
