Host: United Nations Development Programme, United Cities and Local Governments
Development cannot be achieved without action at local level. The COVID19 pandemic has demonstrated how cities and local governments roles have been essential to respond to pressure needs and ensure minimum disruption of essential services, while also providing a first-aid response to the most vulnerable citizens. Now is time to plan what comes next and how we, as individuals, relate to the world around us and how we can shift a future that will require some fundamental changes. Our cities and territories are the first place where change is taking place, but their voice and solutions also need to be heard at global level.
The implementation of Agenda 2030 at local level provides the perfect framework to link our individual actions with what else happens in the planet. Cities and local governments are already advocating that the SDGs ARE the plan to recover from the COVID crisis and it is thanks to local governments that the SDG messages are reaching the ground. Join us for this groundbreaking conversation between the UNDP Administrator and Mayors regarding the role that cities and territories play in development, how the local level is the place that links us to the planet, where change starts and where we as individuals can play an active part in shifting the future, and more.
