Lightning Talk | Main Stage
Host: UN SDG Action Campaign
Across the world, the empowerment, safety and progression of women in public and private settings is viewed through the lens of gender equality. This is no different in Nigeria. Stories of injustices, discrimination and violations experienced by women and girls cannot be overemphasized. Data by UNICEF Nigeria in 2015 showed that one in four girls in Nigeria had experienced sexual violence before the age of 18. What forms do these violence take? What are the drivers and how does it impact women’s access to leadership? This talks delves deep into the strategies employed by Stand To End Rape Initiative (STER) to advance gender equality through grassroots engagement, awareness campaigns and policy advocacy, while holding the Nigerian government accountable to their commitment.
