Campaign activation workshop | Activation Space

Host: Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS)

The Campaign
The session will focus on the opportunities for a sustainable recovery that the Italian-led G20 will present in light of the pandemic. Given the extraordinary circumstances in which we have been living, sustainability is more and more perceived as the key factor to enable a path of economic, inclusive and green growth, under the umbrella of the 2030 Agenda. The Italian Presidency’s focus on sustainability will feature this crucial issue in the forum that brings together the most advanced economies in the world.

The Opportunity
National governments, civil society, the private sector and individuals must step up their efforts to raise awareness in order to gain momentum and engage public opinion on the issues of sustainability. The pandemic has been a devastating blow for communities and individuals, but it can be an opportunity to build back better and to ‘leap forward’ by designing all together a new paradigm for development.

The Participants
Civil society, international organizations, activists, business and institutional actors could gain useful insights about the opportunities that the G20 will offer to share strategies and plans to empower a sustainable recovery in light of the pandemic.

The Contribution
As opinion leaders and civil society representatives, the attendees will have the opportunity to amplify the key messages of the debate in their everyday life and work. International cooperation for sustainable development is a key element of the G20, and given this historic moment in which the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 will be decided, attendees will be able to give their contribution by sharing initiatives and messages in their own contexts.

The Take Aways
Attendees, especially those hailing from G20 countries will be crucial in replicating the key messages and ramping up the pressure in other venues so that the G20 can become a crucial element in restarting global progress towards the SDGs especially in light of the pandemic. The participation of everyone, irrespective of age, ethnicity or geographic location will be fundamental to ensure that it can be successful, in line with the spirit of the Decade of Action launched in 2020.
