In the past year, the global pandemic has become an unprecedented development emergency. A stealthy virus has shown just how weak many of our institutions and systems really are. Economies are not only unequal and unjust, for instance, but are destroying the planet. How do we ensure a just, green, sustainable recovery? What systems need to change not only to move forward, but to supercharge progress?

This Big Picture Plenary discussion will explore:
What systems need to shift if we want more equitable and resilient societies?

What entry points can alter entire systems?

Which priorities cut across the climate emergency, poverty and inequality, gender discrimination, and inclusive systems and economies?

What’s required to make systemic change broadly inclusive and owned, moving past the current zero-sum game of winners and losers?

Individual actions and communities coming together have been the backbone of the COVID-19 response. How can they be kept energized and involved in the broader development agenda?

How do we make 2021 a “super year” of activism for the Decade of Action?
