For the delivery of the SDG Global Festival of Action, the organising team are committed to improving sustainability standards and practices. There is still much work to be done to deliver a truly sustainable event, here you will find an overview of the areas the team are working hard to meet SDG principles on.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Environmental footprint
We want to make sure all participants can experience the Festival with minimum environmental impact.
A number of actions are being taken to reduce the carbon and overall environmental footprint of the event and offset unavoidable greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to it:
Climate Neutral
The SDG Global Festival of Action is taking the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ pledge by partnering with the United Nations Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) to measure, reduce, report and compensate for emissions spent on hosting the event.
The SDG Spectacular cultural evening event is certified carbon neutral by atmosfair.
Reduced paper use
There will be no printed agenda or handouts. Instead, the Festival will feature an events app and digital signage.
Help us deliver a paperless festival by avoiding any printing and photocopying required for use during the event.
Virtual participation
For those who can’t make it to Bonn, a live streaming of the plenary sessions and the SDG Studio will be available, allowing virtual audiences to experience the festival without travelling.
Don’t be shy! We welcome your participation in the discussions by joining interactive Facebook live with webtv.un.org and live-tweeting. Make sure to follow the hashtag #SDGActionFest.
Waste Management
We are committed to reducing our waste, and encourage the separation of unwanted materials using differently marked bins to ensure maximum recycling. Be part of our task force and help us recycle!
Reusable water bottles distributed to participants will limit the generation of plastic waste.
Food and catering
Continuing our commitment from last year, once again the SDG Global Festival of Action will be MEAT FREE! Only vegetarian food will be served with at least one vegan option available for lunch each day.
The catering is done through a “Green Globe”, a “Sustainable Bonn” certified company, which prioritises the use of regional products, and tea and coffee from organic fair trade cultivation. Special attention is paid to the avoidance of food waste by calculating precise quantities and attempting to re-use.
Leftover food in good condition is picked up and re-distributed.
Organic waste is processed into biogas.
Play your part!
As an attendee at the SDG Global Festival of Action, you also have the opportunity to be a ‘sustainable participant’.
- Use public transport: Every festival-goer must get to the World Conference Centre for the event, we therefore encourage you to consider how you plan to travel once in Bonn. With a fantastic public transport system, there’s no need to drive or get individual taxis, or if you would like to go one step further, Bonn has a public bike rental system – check out www.nextbike.de/en/ to find out more!
- Recycle your badges: Look for the Recycle Badge Box at the conference service desk exit when you leave and leave any unwanted conference supplies there.
